Madrigal
The "Madrigal"
was my first Archtop design and is essentially a 17" arch top version of the "Baroque." Still very early on, but after I had been working in Tom Ribbecke’s shop for a while, I was able to take the things I learned about Archtop construction and apply it to my asymmetrical body shape, multi scale concept. I borrowed from the design of Tom’s Halfling instruments and the the influence, particularly on the early “Madrigals” is undeniable. Over time, I have refined the curves of the body shape and applied some of my own design ideas like the side sound hole and an arm bevel built into the carve of the top to create something that I feel like is uniquely my own, but still reflects my lutherie lineage. I now consider the “Madrigal” to be the my standard 17” instrument and a good platform for instruments that need more low end like 7 and 8 strings or Basses.
